We could as well get rid of error.php. With custom urls, I don't  
think it's necessary anymore.

Already? Well I have been running some tar+bzip2, mysql dumps and  
restores prior to the actual update. Are those being included in the  
cpu loads too? I have also been running without the template cache  
enabled for a while now. Just switched it on, let's see if that helps.
