You should really consider at least linux... There are lots of nice
distros that shouldn't cause you as many headaches as windows has :)
And OS X is also there, combining the power of Unix with the beauty of
Apple. What else can you ask for? :)))

There's no hurry about your changes anyway, you can take your time.
