well, to convert all db stored text to utf-8 isn't that big of a 
problem, and i bet
you will have to get rid of encodings sooner or later.

but i see your point.. if this software is already in use with huge 
amount
of entries, this migration might cause problems.

as long as its just mysql that is supported, converting all existing 
posts
is not that complicated. with a db independent code, you cannot convert
all texts to utf-8 so easily.

anyway.. i'll leave it the way it is :)
