As matt said, modern email clients look at the message headers to know to which
message you're replying and then graphically show you to which older message
your messages are a reply of, etc. So for example in my Mail.app under OSX, I
see one subject as the first message but then if I look down, below the first
message, I see lots of other different subjects that have no relationship with
the original one :)
