Mark is probably the best one to answer that question, but I suppose
we should be using the mb_xxx functions
(http://us.php.net/manual/en/ref.mbstring.php)

And about PHP6, I think it's still a bit early to talk about it so
probably no, we won't be supporting it (yet)
