 	I think that is fine.  This gets read in at a lower level than 
the rest of the config stuff?  When you say "optional" do you mean it 
wouldn't be in the default install?  I'd at least have it in there 
commented, so people can find it when they need it.
 	This is a random question, and I have no prior knowledge - do all 
hosts (and versions of mysql) allow FULLTEXT searches?
